Abstract
Both e-business and the steel industry have had bumpy rides over the past year.
Throughout 1999 and the first half of 2000, industry conference platforms were jammed

variety of analysts produced compelling arguments regarding the rapid shift of metals
commerce into the e-world. Trading sites such as MetalSite, e-Steel, and SteelScreen
proliferated, and the industry was subjected to an overwhelming technology push.
