Abstract
With today’s growing water demand and increasing conflicts over the resource’s alternative uses (e.g., water consumption, irrigation, navigation, recreation and hydro-energy), it is becoming strategically important to improve water management to meet all the different objectives. Power project owners, for example, must meet various energy market requirements and maximize their revenues while taking into account other energy generation sources or externally owned projects on the river.
Moreover, they
must operate their reservoirs to minimise the impacts of flood and drought. Fortunately, operators are now taking advantage of Decision Support Systems (DSS) to help manage their reservoirs, plants and energy generation.
