Coal/biomass/waste gasification and coal-to-liquids technologies are some of the many approaches needed to establish energy security while minimizing the impacts of energy supply and use on the environment.
Using our high-temperature process expertise, Hatch has been involved in the application and design of gasification vessels with multiple clients from planning to detailed reactor design and associated peripherals (e.g. feed and slag granulation systems).
While many EPCM providers have aligned with individual gasification technology licensors, Hatch remains technology neutral, facilitating independent review and offering unbiased advice on technology selection.
Hatch has also assisted various gasification technology licensors in their commercialization and implementation of proprietary technologies through application of Hatch’s specialized skill-set and extensive experience in high temperature reactor design.
The combination of such experience and skills in mining, metallurgy and energy provides a powerful resource to clients embarking on the gasification pathway and energy independence. In-house gasification and applicable industrial expertise includes:
- Gasification of coal and biomass for Fischer-Tropsch liquids applications, hydrogen, SNG and power
- Mining (mine planning, layout, design and construction)
- Metallurgical process plant design and operation, including: high-temperature metallurgical reactors (furnaces, fluid bed reactors) having many commonalities with coal gasification reactors; solids feeding; slag quenching air separation units; hot gas cleanup
- Power generation and cogeneration
- Commodity market assessment capabilities
- Cost/benefit analysis capabilities
- Sustainable development
- Project implementation (from scoping through feasibility studies, detailed engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning).
