Abstract
In the development and commercialization of optimum heat cycles and designs for cupolas and other shaft furnaces, new ways of controlling the heating processes need to be devised. New and promising methods for the thermochemical treatment of lump materials should result in finished products of higher quality, increased production rates, savings in energy usage, and a reduction of emissions. Therefore, methods must be sought to
predict how physico-chemical and heat exchange processes behave within shaft furnaces.
