Abstract
This report describes the use of a new development of Stelco Inc. , the so-called coilbox, as an alternative to the usual operation of wide hot strip mills. In the coilbox, the pre-rolled strip is coiled ahead of the finishing train and decoiled again prior to entering the finishing train. The coilbox solves a basic problem of wide strip rolling, the different temperature drop of the pre-rolled strip ahead of the finishing train.
