Abstract
The steel industry has a reputation for being conservative, slow, dirty and unprofitable. It is described variously as a sunset industry, a mature sector, a commodity business and not an attractive place to work. In many instances it is all those things. In reality – it should be none of those things. Finished steel consumption is growing faster than cars, steel products are developing faster than ever and the value chain for steel products is highly differentiated. Technology is changing fast and allowing greater matching of assets to markets. Most steel companies around the world are in private hands. Most steel companies are making immense steps in reducing their environmental impact and contributing to their
communities.
