Abstract
The implementation of an optimal short-term scheduling tool for the operation of the Columbia River System has presented interesting challenges due to the system size and diversity. Various numerical schemes, involving the reduction of the problem along the time and space dimensions, have been developed. The appropriate use of the tool shows that optimal solutions can be generated with the desired level of performance, and without any significant loss of accuracy.
